From the coming of the Roman legions to the rule of the Welsh Kings, through a dark age of superstition to the red tides of war, the river has always run, bringing settlers, invaders and travellers to our shore.

Templar Knights, Irish Immigrants, Nazi spies, exiled Highlanders, Vikings, gypsies, warlocks, mystics, poets and revolutionaries, some passed through, some stayed forever, all of them left their mark on the Clyde and her people.

Journey back in time to discover the roots of our community and the secrets of our common heritage.

Views and Reminscences of Old Greenock

When first published in 1891, it was the firm wish of the authors that Views and Reminiscences of Old Greenock "be regarded by Greenockians as a treasured window, opening out on scenes and glimpses of the fading history and local past."

This book is beautifully reprinted in black white with many intricate drawings of Greenock of yesteryear, including Highland Mary's Grave and the Castle of Easter, and many more places of old Greenock long forgotten by history. Each illustration is accompanied by a detailed overview of the building and/or area, and retells any memorable anecdotes associated with the area that have been recorded.

This 73 page paperback book is a 2001 reprint of the orginal 1891 version.
